When elderly people in Kidlington announced they were short of money, everyone got in on the act.
Even children joined the fray by organising a "mile of pennies" in the village High Street.
Christian Rippington, just two-and-a-half, left, was probably too young to understand what was going on.
But watched by a group of older children, whose names we don't know, he was happy to add a coin to the growing line on the pavement outside the shops.
The picture was taken in 1976 when the Kidlington Evergreen Club, for elderly people, held a fundraising week.
Events were organised throughout the week to raise money for members to go on outings.
We're not certain who thought of the idea of the "mile of pennies", but children certainly gave it their full support.
Under the headline Cash lined up, the Oxford Mail reported: "The 1,000 coins laid side by side down the High Street may not have stretched for a mile, but they certainly provided much-needed cash."
Shoppers were invited to lay spare 2p, 1p and p coins on the pavement, and many responded.
By the end of the day, £11.70 had been collected.
Other events held during the week included a cake competition, a whist drive, buffet dance, a cake stall and a coach trip to Evesham.
At the time of the appeal, the Evergreens Club had 134 members aged over 60.
The group is still going strong today.
