Hundreds of runners are getting ready for action ahead of Sunday's Town and Gown 10k fun run.

The race, held in aid of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and sponsored by the Oxford Mail, is this year celebrating its 25th anniversary. It has raised almost £600,000 since 1981.

And, as always, there will be some famous faces on the start line thanks to Oxfordshire personal trainer Barry Grinham, right, who is entering a 70-strong team that includes some sporting celebrities.

Former jockey Richard Dunwoody and TV presenters Steve Ryder and Louise Goodman will be among Mr Grinham's team of clients.

Last year, Mr Grinham's team raised almost £1,500 for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. Event spokesman Annie Jackson said: "Barry does a fantastic job each year supporting us, his enthusiasm for the event is superb. It will be great to see him and his team at this year's race once again."

This will be the 15th year Mr Grinham, a fitness expert who runs his own personal training company based in Kirtlington, has been involved in the race. In that time his teams have raised more than £10,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. Mr Grinham said: "It's all about having fun, camaraderie and getting people together for a great day out."

Jason Biles, owner of the Aviators Health and Fitness Club in Kidlington, will also be entering a team again this year, after raising hundreds of pounds last year.

Race organisers are expecting between 3,500 and 4,000 entrants this year. Ms Jackson said: "Entries have been coming in thick and fast."

This year, for the first time, the race will be led and followed by Harley Davidson bikers after the motorbike marshals due to help pulled out last week.

Ms Jackson said: "The Oxford Harley Davidson chapter has been fantastic and have offered to help us out, so we will have two bikes leading the runners off and two following on behind. They'll provide a great spectacle."

This year's race will be started by TV presenter and Muscular Dystrophy Campaign president Sue Barker.
