Television sports personality David Vine should feel at home when he judges the floats at Wallingford's Carnival this year.

The theme for the big parade is Sporting Achievements.

Mr Vine has commentated on hundreds of sporting events on both television and radio, including the winter and summer Olympics and is best remembered for Grandstand, Match of the Day and Ski Sunday.

Carnival organisers' spokesman Vivienne McCracken said: "We have a great programme lined up, with something for everyone. We're hoping for a bumper carnival parade for Mr Vine to judge after he opens the event."

The bucket collection during the parade will go towards the restoration of the Corn Exchange Theatre.

Leading the parade on Saturday, June 17, will be Wallingford mayor Nigel Moor in a carriage pulled by a Shire horse.

As part of the carnival, Wallingford Art Club has its annual exhibition at Centre 70 in Goldsmiths Lane, the town's photographic society will have an exhibition in the town hall, the Methodist Church, in St Leonard's Square, has refreshments and in the main ring on the Kinecroft will be motorbikers, a dog display, a climbing wall and a fun fair.

Forms for stalls and floats are available at Buckell and Ballard's offices.
