Peugeot has announced prices for the new 207, starting from £8,995 for the three-door 1.4-litre petrol Urban model.

The 207 will be available at launch on June 8 as either a three- or five-door hatchback, but will be joined later by other bodystyles as the range evolves. A range of five trim levels Urban, S, Sport, SE and GT will be available powered by one of six engine options, all fitted with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Peugeot says safety is a strong point of the 207 with the highest overall score in Euro NCAP for a supermini of: five stars for occupant protection, three stars for pedestrian impact protection and four stars for child occupant protection. The 207 is also one of the first cars designed to meet the new European directive for pedestrian impact protection. The 207 also has two distinctive looks, the "Classic" look available on the Urban, S and SE models and the "Sport" look available on the Sport and GT. Air conditioning is standard on all Sport, SE and GT derivatives.

A Peugeot spokesman said: "The 207 will see many future developments over the coming years, including innovations in terms of high-tech engines and equipment (Stop and Start), new body styles, to mention but a few. Before the end of 2006, two new engines developed as part of the partnership between PSA Peugeot Citron and the BMW Group will make their first appearance in the 207."
