A mum stabbed a teenager after he pushed over her daughter during an argument between two groups of girls at a neighbour's Oxford home, a court heard.

Geraldine Alder and then boyfriend Richard Tremlett are accused of going armed with a knife and iron bar to the Lanighan family's home in Rose Hill, Oxford, to seek revenge after a row.

Kevin Barry, prosecuting, said Alder, 41, stabbed Shaun White after he pushed her daughter Vicky to the ground at his girlfriend Melissa Lanighan's house, in Mortimer Road, on July 17 last year.

Tremlett, 33, is accused of threatening Mr White and his girlfriend's father David Lanighan with an iron bar, before punching Mr Lanighan in the face.

Both Alder and Tremlett deny affray. Alder's daughter's boyfriend Jason Merry has admitted affray and is awaiting sentence.

Mr Barry said Alder drove with Tremlett, Vicky and Merry from Tremlett's home in Desborough Crescent to attack Mr White after her daughter arrived home upset.

Mr Lanighan was with Mr White outside his house when the car pulled up and all four got out.

Mr Barry said: "They had come to seek revenge for the three girls who had been bundled off the Lanighans' property about five minutes earlier, following an argument with Mr Lanighan's daughter and some friends.

"Jason Merry demanded to know who had hit his girlfriend, both men denied that had happened, but then Vicky pointed at Mr White."

He said Merry launched into attacking Mr White, who tried to block his punches. Both men ended up on the bonnet of Mr Lanighan's Vauxhall Vectra.

Mr White told the court he saw Alder, who now lives in Barnes Road, Cowley, Oxford, coming towards him as he grappled with Merry. He felt her punching the left side of his body and said he kicked at her to get away.

He then saw Tremlett wielding an iron bar. He and Mr Lanighan broke free from the scuffle and ran inside the Lanighans' home.

Mr White added: "I saw Tremlett's foot in the door, stopping it from closing. Then him and Jason came in, and Jason came towards me again."

The court heard Merry kicked Mr White in the head, and Mr Lanighan said Tremlett punched him in the face.

Mr Lanighan said he hit back at Tremlett and both attackers ran out of the house. Mr White realised he was bleeding and had been stabbed in his left thigh.

He was taken to Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital for stitches.

Mr Barry said Alder was the only attacker who got close enough to inflict the wound.

Alder and Tremlett admit being outside the Lanighans' home, but deny carrying a knife or iron bar.

The trial continues.
