UNEMPLOYED glazier Michael Humphries has denied stabbing to death Oxford academic Dr Barbara Johnston.

Humphries, 42, of Ferndale Street, Faringdon, is accused of murdering the 55-year-old between January 23 and January 26.

He spoke only to enter a not guilty plea to murder when he appeared at Oxford Crown Court yesterday.

Dr Johnston, an Oxford University graduate who specialised in child respiratory problems and cot deaths, was found dead at her flat in Woodstock Close, off Woodstock Road, Oxford, on January 26.

She had recently returned to Oxford after living in New Zealand for 23 years.

Humphries was remanded in custody.

He is due to appear before the court on Friday, June 9. A trial date has not been fixed.
