The Easter Bunny paid a visit to Oxfordshire children on Saturday on a motorbike.

Motorists did a double-take as 'Spike' (aka Rob Chandler, a security guard from Grove) roared past on a Yamaha Virago trike, dressed head to toe in pink fake fur and wearing a customised helmet with furry rabbit ears.

He was trailed by about 90 other bikers taking part in Caldarium Motor Cycle Club's annual Easter Egg Run.

Launched three years ago, the event sees bikers deliver hundreds of Easter eggs and cuddly toys to children in the county with learning disabilities or terminal illnesses. The club, which meets at the Morris Motors Athletic and Social Club, also raises money for the schools and centres it visits.

The leather-clad convoy left the Plough Inn, Arncott, just after noon, stopping first at Bardwell School, Bicester. Pupils and staff grinned and waved as the bikers pulled up and began handing out goodies.

Head Chris Hughes said: "They raise money for the school as well. It really changes the public perception of bikers.

"It's lovely seeing the excitement of the children as they wait for them to arrive.

"You never forget it once you've seen it."

The group then visited St Nicholas House, in Littlemore, Helen House hospice, in Leopold Street, East Oxford, and Herne House, in Hernes Crescent, Summertown, Oxford, before heading back to the Plough Inn for a fundraising party.

Mr Chandler, who joined the club two years ago, said he enjoyed playing the Easter Bunny.

He said: "I actually volunteered the first year I was a member, but was told at the time the job was taken and then it came up. I love doing daft things like this and the kids love it.

"It's a great buzz when you're out there and everyone is smiling and waving at you."

The rally is open to all bikers, providing they bring a toy, egg or gift of money.
