Headington Roadrunner Steve Kimber wrapped up the senior and overall men's titles as the final round of the season was greeted by perfect conditions at Banbury's Drayton School.

Kimber had to settle for second place on the day behind Mathew Ashton, who made a rare appearance for Witney Roadrunners.

But the Headington man's dominant displays throughout the season proved more than enough to clinch the title.

And in a unique double for his club, there was also joy for Steve's father, Phil, who secured the Vet 60 men's title for the first time.

In cool, but dry conditions, the men's event saw one of the largest fields of the season, and with Ashton and Tom Penfold also in action, it guaranteed a fast race.

Before the star, Ashton learned that he had been handed a late call-up to the Great Britain squad to compete at the World Student Cross Country Championships in Algeria in three weeks' time.

And he celebrated with a powerful run that saw him cruise to victory by more than 30 seconds.

He crossed the line in 31mins 8secs, with Kimber runner-up and Penfold, who had been carrying a slight injury, third in 32.19.

Headington's clutch of medals continued as Vasili Zverev wrapped up the vet 40 title, while Hook Norton's Michael Hailey secured the vet 50 crown.

Headington's margin of victory in the team competition was enormous as they finished 766 points ahead of Witney Roadrunners.

The club's second string also had cause to celebrate as they won the Division 2 title.

At the other end of Division 2, Oxford City finished rock bottom, while Banbury Harriers won the new Division 3 shield.

The race for the ladies' team title produced far more interest, with speculation that Cirencester would field an under-strength team.

Although that was the case - with overall and vet 35 women's winner Wendy Jones missing the event - Cirencester had more than enough in reserve to secure the title, with their three points-scoring athletes all finishing in the top six.

The race was won by Witney's Nikki Slater, completing a men's and women's double for the west Oxfordshire club.

Slater cruised to victory by 45 seconds, crossing the line in 18.31.

White Horse Harrier Frances Briscoe's second place secured the senior women's crown.

But with Cirencester's Ellen Leggate and Cathy Cook (vet 35) filling the next two places and Jane Wassell finishing sixth, the team prize once again went over the border to Gloucestershire

Eynsham Roadrunners' Kate Williamson secured the vet 55 ladies' title. LEADING INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
