Headington Roadrunners' Richard Bromley, winner of the opening race in the Oxford Mail Cross Country League, could miss the second round at Enslow Quarry on Sunday.

However, even in Bromley's absence, Headington will look to make home advantage count around the boggy course.

Headington edged out perennial rivals Woodstock in the first round at Ascott-under-Wychwood, and would hope to stretch their lead on their home course.

Enslow has been Headington's home venue for the last few years, and although it is not the longest course on the circuit, it is certainly the most challenging.

Headington and Woodstock put in solid performances in round one at Ascott, but several other clubs are not far behind, with Witney a particular threat.

Elsewhere in the individual race, Steve Kimber (Oxford City) is set to run again, and would be among the favourites in Bromley's absence, while Hook Norton's Tom Bradford, who finished third at Ascott, is another to look out for as he continues to improve.

In the ladies' race, Wendy Jones and Jane Wassell are likely to be in the strong Cirencester team.

But the competition looks to be wide open, and an appearance from Nicola Gomm could enhance Witney Roadrunners' aspirations.

The women's course is 5.4km and the men's 8.8km.

Mobile catering and toilet facilities will be on site, and parking is available at £1 per car.
