North Berks League: Andy Bulloch blasted a four-timer as Northcroft went through to the second round of the War Memorial Cup after a 6-3 win over Benson AFC.

But they did it the hard way after going a goal down after only two minutes,

James Taylor scored Benson's early opener, but within ten minutes, Northcroft were 3-1 up thanks to the pace of Bulloch and Darrell Thomas.

Bulloch scored the first with a shot into the far corner and the second from the penalty spot.

Thomas then drilled home No 3 after bursting through a static back four.

Taylor pulled a goal back for Benson, but a fine individual goal by Bulloch and a header by Martyn Benson made the interval score 5-2.

Bulloch headed in his fourth on 55 minutes, with Eddie Carter getting Benson's third.

Facing Northcroft in the next round are Bampton & Buckland, who were twice pegged back by Division 4 visitors Crowmarsh Gifford before going on to win 5-2.

Alan Jordan put the home side ahead with a volley, only for Tom O'Driscoll to bring Crowmarsh back on level terms at half-time.

Paul Penny scored a second-half hat-trick for Bampton & Buckland, with Matt Gesner netting for Crowmarsh.

Surprise of the round was Challow United's 5-2 win at Division 2 Harwell Village.

A depleted Harwell twice went in front through Alan Bertrum and Steve Belcher, with Challow staying in touch through Alex Oram and Lee Cherrill.

In the second half, Challow stepped up a gear to score further goals through Cherrill and Kevin Pryde (2).

Appleton (Abingdon) strolled into the next round with a 5-1 win over Benson Lions.

Centre back and leading scorer Andy Cooper netted twice, with Mark De Silva, Steve Roberts and Tim Cruttendon also on target. Leon McLeod notched the Lions' consolation.

Stanford in the Vale pipped fellow Division 3 side Kingsclere 2-1 thanks to goals from Will Knight and James Keller. Dwayne Pettit scored for Kingsclere.

In the Charity Shield, Drayton won 3-2 at Harwell International with Stephen Munns (2) and Danny Curran on the mark, while Botley United overcame Hanney United 4-2.

Grove Rangers won a stormy affair at Coleshill United, where the home side's Christian Ayres and Nathan Francis were sent for an early bath during a 3-2 loss.

Ayres and Matthew Bugden had scored as Coleshill tried to come back from goals by Chris Houldey, Dave Stebbings (pen) and Bryan Lyndsay.

In the AG Kingham Cup, Long Wittenham Res are through to the third round after a 1-0 win over Hanney United Res, courtesy of a goal from Jake Smith.

They are joined by Marcham Res, who eased past Drayton Res 4-0 with goals from Wes Costar (2), Tom Cousins and Phil Jeacock.

Division 1 action saw Saxton Rovers move up to third place, level with Lambourn, after a 3-0 victory at Steventon.

Jodie McKay put Rovers ahead early on and Kevin Giddings doubled lead before the break.

Wayne Waldron sealed victory with a second-half strike.

Robert Owen hammered a hat-trick for Faringdon Town as they triumphed 4-0 against struggling East Hendred. Michael Marsh scored Town's other goal.

Marcham picked up their first point in six games with a 2-2 draw at home to Blewbury. Luke Westall scored both Marcham goals, with Dan Hickman and Gareth Fenton on target for Blewbury.

In Division 4, Uffington United convincingly won the basement battle against Bampton & Buckland Res, James Whitmore (3), Jason Smith (2) and Matthew Cramp scoring in a 6-1 win.

Division 5 leaders Wootton & Dry Sandford Res were held 3-3 by Benson Res.

Keith Bruce notched a brace to add to a goal from Danny Cox, while James Passey, Alan Ring and Damian Rigozzi netted for Benson.

Steventon Res missed the chance to convert one of their games in hand into points as they crashed 3-0 at Coleshill A.

Scott Griffin, James Bye and an own goal completed Coleshill's tally.
