Southern League: Thame United slipped to the bottom of the Division 1 West table despite a battling performance against the league leaders yesterday.

Moved to a Sunday because landlords Aylesbury United had a home game on the Saturday, Thame matched Clevedon for possesion.

However, it was the visitors who created the most clear-cut chances.

And they should have gone ahead through Tom Jacobs, only for goalkeeper Paul Searl to make a great block with his legs.

After the break, Clevedon turned up the heat with three corners in the first five minutes.

And they broke the deadlock on 68 minutes when Jack Nipper fired them ahead after Searl could only parry a shot.

With 15 minutes left, Thame, for whom Dave Hocking was outstanding, almost levelled but a Clevedon defender blocked John Mitchell's close-range header from Mark Boland's cross.

Thame Utd: Searl, Lane, Joyce (Boland), Rhodes, Hocking, Groves (Kitson), Moore (Caldwell-Smith), Fisher, Mitchell, Spencer, Freeman.
