GLS Football Hellenic League - Wantage Tn 5, Wokingham & Emm 1: Paul Day fired a second-half double as Wantage ended a run of three successive defeats with an impressive display in the first round of the League Cup on Saturday.

The Premier Division side found their Division 1 East opponents hard to break until Adam Giles fired the opener from Gary Swann's flick-on.

After the break, Wantage turned up the heat, with Day notching his first from the penalty spot after he was brought down.

Day then completed his brace with a cracking strike from the edge of the area before Gavin Jones bagged his first goal for a year to give Wantage a 4-0 lead.

Substitute Tom Austin then wrapped it all up with No 5, before Danny Oliphant netted Wokingham's consolation.

Abingdon Utd 3, Witney Utd 1: Abingdon reached the next round with their second victory in seven days against the same opponents.

Witney, who last week lost their league encounter, thought they had scored when Jamie Cook's shot hit the bar before appearing to go over the line. However, the officials waved play on.

Minutes later, Mark Simms slotted home Abingdon's first.

In the second half, Witney were right back in it when Richie Saunders headed in Tom Dingle's cross.

Anaclet Odhiambo then restored Abingdon's lead after latching onto Simms's chip.

Curtin then sealed the win with a penalty after the ball hit Nando Perna on the arm.

Late on, Witney's Lee Keyes hit the crossbar.

Carterton 0, Didcot Tn 2: Holders Didcot Town eased into round two at the expense of their Premier Division rivals.

Stuart Beavon netted Didcot's first after only four minutes, heading home Ian Concannon's cross.

Dave Green fired over from 25 yards, before Concannon made it 2-0, coolly lifting the ball over the keeper.

After the break, Green, Beavon and Andy Parrott went close, while Beavon had appeals for a spot-kick rejected.

Victory could prove costly for Didcot, however, with Parrott going off with a badly-twisted ankle.

The closest Carterton came to scoring was in the second half when Paul Cooper's goalbound shot was deflected to safety by Didcot's Jamie Heapy.

North Leigh 3, Almondsbury 1: North Leigh eased through with a straight forward victory against their Gloucestershire opponents.

Liam Hope gave North Leigh a ninth-minute lead from 15 yards, with Justin Miller making it 2-0 early in the second half from Mark Dennis's perceptive pass.

Although Jack Jarvis reduced Almondsbury's arrears, victory was sealed when Robbie Wyatt converted a penalty after the goalkeeper brought down Miller.

Kidlington 2, Chalfont Wasps 8: Kidlington crashed to an embarrassing defeat at home to Division 1 East underdogs Chalfont.

Wasps raced into a 5-0 half-time lead.

After the break, Kidlington went 6-0 down, before a Luke Holden brace restored some pride.

Wasps then compounded shell-shocked Kidlington's misery with two late strikes.
