Oxford Cheetahs are to change their race night to Wednesday next season.

It is the second change of night in two years as new promoter Aaron Lanney tries to find a time that will prove profitable, after a few years showing big losses for respective promoters.

Lanney said: "I have done some research on the subject, and Thursday's didn't work last year.

"We thought we may have Friday back, but that didn't work out, so the only real option was to race on Wed- nesday.

"I want Oxford to have their own race night with no local distractions.

Reading will race on Monday and Swindon on Thursday.

"I know there are local problems like aunt sally and football, but we do have Thursday as our off-night and will, of course, fall in with Sky TV commitments," he added.

"I am working feverishly to put a team together at the moment.

"Although I have lost Niels Kristian Iversen to Peterborough, I am in advanced negotiations with three riders and talking to another two, including Travis McGowan, who is close to doing a deal."

Lanney, unlike former promoter Nigel Wagstaff, will leave team matters to a manager.

"I don't want to be in the pits all the time, so I will leave team matters to a manager," he said.

"I want to work on the promotional side of the club and we are desperate for a main team sponsor in the region

"I am committed and passionate about the sport.

"It's a massive investment for me and will start with the refurbishment of the track, a new sound system and new air fencing.

"I would be happy if the team made the play-offs in my first year, but failing that a half-way spot would be nice."
