The mother of an Oxford schoolgirl who was allegedly kicked to the ground by a school bully has decided to move her to another school to make a fresh start.

The 14-year-old returned to Oxford Community School following the alleged attack during the half-term break, but later she reported receiving further threats from the girl while they were at school.

The Year 10 pupil, who did not want to be named, said she was knocked to the ground during the incident on October 22, and repeatedly punched and kicked, while other friends looked on and did nothing.

Her lips were cut and bleeding, a front tooth was knocked in, damaging the nerve, her stomach and sides were bruised, and doctors believe her eye socket and cheek bone were fractured in the attack.

A 14-year-old girl, who was arrested on suspicion of assault following and released on bail, has also now been disciplined by the school.

The mother of the alleged victim said the school had taken the matter more seriously since the Oxford Mail highlighted the case at the start of Anti-Bullying Week on November 21.

The 31-year-old, of Cowley, Oxford, said: "The school finally took notice that this was a serious issue but this should have happened when we first came back after the half-term.

"I have decided to take my daughter out of that school and will be moving her to a different school to give her a fresh start.

"She doesn't feel safe there while that girl and the other people who were involved are still there. We've decided to make a clean break and she won't be going back.

"The school has been good supporting my daughter by letting her stay off school and sending her coursework to do at home so she doesn't fall too far behind."

Headteacher Steve Lunt said: "Staff have worked very hard to support the girl during the last three weeks and up until then, there were no major issues.

"We have taken disciplinary action against the other girl since the incident.

"We had a meeting with the girl's mother and she decided that the girl doesn't feel safe generally in the city and a fresh start would be the best thing.

"I'm a parent myself and I obviously understand their concerns. We parted on very good terms."
