FA Cup - Brackley Town 1, Banbury Utd 1: Ten-man Banbury fought back from going a goal down and having Ady Fuller sent off to earn a replay in their second qualifying round derby at Brackley on Saturday.

After an opening half-hour which saw both sides probing for an opening, it was Brackley who took the lead in the 32nd minute.

Wayne Blossom lost the ball just outside the Brackley penalty area, and the clearance was played up to Robbie Beard, who looked to be offside, wide on the left.

But the linesman kept his flag down and Beard raced away and cut inside before slotting his shot past the advancing Simon Tricker and into the far corner of the net.

To compound Banbury's problems, Fuller was then shown the red card for remarks made to the linesman, leaving the Southern League Premier Division side's ten men with an uphill struggle.

Banbury reorganised with Chris Jackson coming on for the unfortunate Matty Good- erick.

And the visitors' fighting qualities came to the fore as, spurred on by captain Kieran Sullivan, they started to match their Souther League Division 1 West hosts.

They spurned a good chance when the energetic Blossom's left-foot shot flew wide of the far post from Jon Gardner's cross.

Tommy Kinch then cleared two shots off the line in quick succession as Brackley pressured the United defence.

But Banbury hit back with an equaliser in the 45th minute.

Martin Brown fouled Andy Baird a yard inside the penalty area, and with Fuller off the field, Gardner took up spot-kick duties and smashed the ball past Alan Judge.

Brackley's top scorer, Matt Murphy, almost added to his tally early in the second half when his header beat keeper Simon Tricker, but glanced off the far post to safety.

Banbury kept battling hard to make up for being a man short, and they twice went close to grabbing a winner.

Andy Williams, under tremendous pressure from Baird, came to Brackley's rescue by clearing a dangerous Darren Pond cross.

And Banbury went close again when Pond's corner was touched on by George Redknap, and Jackson blasted a shot inches over the crossbar.

But neither side could force a winner, and so they must try again at Spencer Stadium tomorrow.
