A noisy neighbour who repeatedly played loud music through the night has had her sound system seized and been handed an Antisocial Behaviour Order (Asbo), preventing her from holding late-night parties.

Neighbours complained about Michelle Hamilton, 20, of Buscot Drive, Abingdon, after they heard music booming from her house during drunken parties.

The imposing of an Asbo against Miss Hamilton at Wantage Magistrates' Court on September 7, comes more than 18 months after the first complaints about her.

On August 27 and September 3 last year she breached an abatement notice issued in March 2004 which prevented her from creating a nuisance by playing loud music for the second time.

The latest prosecution followed further complaints from neighbours after Miss Hamilton played music through the night on April 28 and April 29 this year.

Senior environmental health officer Alick Natton, of Vale of White Horse District Council, said the music was so loud, neighbours could hear every word of the songs from their houses.

A neighbour of Miss Hamilton's, who asked not to be named, said: "I've heard the music, it's really loud and then there is a lot of shouting and swearing at times.

"It is good to know that if you have a problem the council do listen to you because sometimes people think they will be ignored. I just hope she takes notice of it now."

Jerry Patterson, leader of the Vale of White Horse District Council, said: "We are not going to shy away from using our powers when people behave unreasonably towards their neighbours."

Miss Hamilton was ordered to pay £50 compensation to her neighbour and £50 costs.

Her Asbo states she is not allowed to have more than two adult visitors between the hours of 10pm and 8am.
