Frank Sobott asks why the City Council is doing nothing to provide more cycle parking in the city centre (Oxford Mail letters, August 15).
I fear that this is another case of the muddle caused by the two councils -- installing new cycle parking is the legal prerogative of the county council, and all that we city centre councillors can do is try to persuade the Tory-controlled
county to act.
That is precisely what we have been doing -- none more so, as one might expect, than the Greens.
We finally have some movement -- although not nearly enough -- as the county is considering the case for the installation of 144 new racks across the city centre.
I will be at the county's transport committee on October 6 at 10am, in order to make my case for more cycle parking.
I'd invite Mr Sobott, and any other disgruntled cyclists in the city, to join me!
Perhaps together we can get some action on this neglected issue. MATT SELLWOOD, Deputy Leader, Oxford City Council Green Group, Town Hall, St Aldate's, Oxford
