A car was partially crushed against a wall after a collision with a taxi in central Oxford on Saturday afternoon.

The male driver and a male passenger were cut from the silver Ford Focus by fire crews after the incident in Oxpens Road, near the junction with Frideswide Square, just before 2pm.

Both men were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, but their injuries were said to not be life-threatening. The driver of the taxi suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital by colleagues from City Taxis.

Police at the scene said the Ford Focus was driving along St Thomas Street and failed to give way where the road crosses the Oxpens Road and collided with the taxi travelling towards the railway station.

Taxi driver Saeed Sadiq, who arrived just minutes after the crash and stayed with his injured colleague, said it was not the first time there had been an accident there.

He said: "This is the third time there has been an accident like this - one of my drivers was driving and a similar thing happened on this very spot. They should have a speed hump there."
