TWO men threatened a woman shop assistant with a knife before stealing the cash till from an Abingdon shop, police revealed today.

The robbers entered the Family Choice store in Parsons Mead at 9pm on Saturday.

One man tried to open the till, containing £250, with a chisel but failed and the men then carried it out of the store.

The first man was desribed as white, in his 30s, 5ft 8ins tall, of stocky build. He was wearing a red woolly hat, red scarf, beige jacket and beige coloured jeans.

His accomplice was 25 to 30 years of age, 6ft tall, of slim build and had a pockmarked face.

He was wearing a dark navy hat, denim top and dark trousers.

An Abingdon police spokesman told the Oxford Mail: "This was a nasty incident. The woman was shocked but fortunately she was not hurt.

"There may have been people in the area at the time who saw these two men carrying the till and we would appeal to them to come forward."

Anyone with information should telephone Abingdon CID on 01235 555959.
