CENTRAL TV presenter Andy Bevan was being quizzed by police today after being arrested on suspicion of gross indecency.

Mr Bevan was arrested at his home in Ormond Street, Wantage, at 7.30am yesterday and taken to Newbury police station after an investigation by West Mercia police.

Mr Bevan presents the news for Central South, whose studios are in Abingdon. He was arrested on suspicion of committing gross indecency with a boy of 15.

It is believed the investigation relates to an alleged incident in 1986 in Telford, Shropshire.

A Thames Valley police spokesman said: "Mr Bevan has been arrested and questioned in connection with an alleged offence of gross indecency. Officers from Malinsgate want to question him. He has not yet been charged with any offence."

A spokesman for Central TV in Birmingham said: "We are not aware of any charges or details of any of the allegations against him.

"We do not know when he will be back at work and we cannot comment any further."

Last year fire crews were called to the studios after Mr Bevan accidentally set off a fire alarm with his hair dryer.

In May, 1998, Mr Bevan returned to work after the investigation against him was dropped. The Crown Prosecution Service said there was insufficient evidence. See the link below for that story.
