THE news in Oxfordshire is now available across the globe after the launch of the Oxford Mail's own Internet web site.

Oxford Mail editor Chris Cowley made history when he became the first to access the county's first ever Internet news service this week.

The specially-designed web site provides a daily digest of all the major stories in Oxfordshire at the touch of a button.

Updated at 3:30pm each day, Internet surfers around the world can access sections including the breaking stories of the day, business news, features and sport.

Browsers can also access features from the Oxford Mail's own music magazine The Pulse.

Mr Cowley said: "The Oxford Mail has put itself at the cutting edge of technology.

"It is great to think that our readers can now find out what is happening in Oxfordshire from anywhere in the world."

The full colour web site will be improved and updated regularly to include more pictures, sections and unique features.

New features in the pipeline include a guide for visitors to Oxfordshire, a directory of local businesses and a What's On section. Work is also under way to add sections on motoring, jobs, property and leisure.

The site was launched after several weeks' work by Oxford Mail computer systems specialist Steve King.

Internet users can find the web site at: www.oxford.newsquest.co.uk
