POLICE swooped on a house in Berinsfield last night and arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of a drugs offence.

Six ounces of a substance suspected to be cannabis resin was seized in the raid, which involved 14 officers, and was taken away for analysis.

About £400 in cash was also discovered, and the man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance with intent to supply before being taken to Didcot police station.

The team of officers was made up of the nine-strong support group, four Wallingford police officers and a dog handler.

The operation took place shortly before 7pm and the premises were entered through a kitchen window at the rear of the house and its front door, which was unlocked.

Two vehicles parked by the house were searched thoroughly, along with the house.

The man was bailed without charge to return to the station on March 5.

"This has been a successful operation. It indicates how seriously we take our commitment," he said.

Two men were arrested in Wallingford yesterday after police officers discovered a small amount of cannabis in the car they were travelling in. The men were stopped at The Lamb crossroads after the car was spotted being driven erratically.
