GRIEVING husband Terry Bishop is fighting to have his wife's killer

illness named as CJD.

The mum-of-two died after being diagnosed with "new-variant" CJD - the human form of mad cow disease.

But the official reason for her death is dementia and bronchial pneumonia.

Now former policeman Terry, 55, is awaiting the results of post-mortem tests which could mean CJD is officially recognised as the cause of death.

He told the Oxford Mail: "She is the 24th person to die from that disease. It has been horrible."

Jayne, 53, died in Oxford's Radcliffe Infirmary on January 30. She was ill for more than 14 months and had been in hospital since the autumn.

In that time, her husband watched her go from being a little forgetful to being unable to speak or recognise anyone.

Terry, of Farm Close Road, Wheatley, said: "This time last year she was only poorly, but it got worse and worse. She couldn't talk to me, she didn't know whether it was Saturday, Sunday or Tuesday afternoon.

"That's no way to live - or to die. I hope she didn't know what it was she had."

Now Terry hopes his fight for recognition may bring compensation for the couple's sons Stuart and Adrian.
