OXFORD City chairman Mick Woodley has hit back at claims made by sacked manager Kevin Brock.

City's chief accused Brock of double standards over 'sacked' midfielder Jason Caffel, who has now been placed on the transfer list, and totally refuted the axed player-manager's claims that he interfered in team selection.

Woodley said: "Kevin's disappointment over his dismissal is very apparent to all.

"If there really are so many things he didn't agree with, everyone must wonder why he had already gone on record as stating he wished to manage Oxford City next season.

"The decision to place Caffel on the transfer list has not just been made, and it is of course only now that he sees fit to raise it.

"He was all for dispensing with three players (Roger Charles, Lee Sharkey and Jon Muttock) earlier in the season for poor discipline.

"Yet when another player transgresses - just because that player was more popular - he seemed to think that he could apply one rule for one and a different rule for another. "He had absolute responsibility for team selection and policy on the field, but obviously he found it difficult to comply with club policy off it."

Meanwhile, City are ready to listen to offers for Caffel, for whom they paid an initial fee of £2,250 from Witney Town only last summer.

He has been booted out by City after being charged by the FA with bringing the game into disrepute at Basingstoke on Easter Monday when he is alleged to have thrown sand at the referee.

Brock said: "I thought it was a disgrace that a bloke like Caffel could give so much to the football club and then be sacked."

Paul Lee, City's director of football, and player-coach Peter Rhoades-Brown remain favourites to form the new management team, and an announcement is expected over the next few days.
