ONE-DAY captain Rob Williams returns to lead Oxfordshire for their MCC Trophy cricket clash with Staffordshire at Walsall on Sunday (11am).

The Bicester and North Oxford batsman missed the county's encouraging 69-run win over Huntingdonshire in their opening group game, because he was playing for an England Cricket Board representative XI.

Also back in are all-rounder Graham Savin and seamer Keith Arnold, who were both unavailable last weekend. Out go Horspath's Ben Thompson and Rover Cowley's Shahbaz Ali.

Oxon travel with a squad of 12 and will wait until they have seen the pitch and established whether Savin is fit to bowl before naming their team.

"Graham will play, even if it is just as a batsman," explained selector and team secretary Alan Crossley. "If you want someone to score runs at a silly rate, then he's your man. But if he can't bowl, then it will obviously influence who else plays." Oxfordshire ot off to a good start with Sunday's win over Hunts, but Staffordshire will provide a far stiffer test.

One of the 'superpowers' of the Minor Counties Championship, they finished second in the Eastern Division last year and have qualified for the NatWest Trophy for the past 15 seasons - the only Minor County to have done so.

The game will be of special significance to Arnold, who will be playing in front of his home crowd at Walsall.

The veteran paceman is a firm favourite at the Birmingham League club, having helped them to victory in the final of the Abbot Ale National Club Championship at Lord's in 1996.

"Presumably he will have his supporters there," said Crossley.

"It should be a great atmosphere for Keith, but I doubt that they will be too pleased if he rolls Staffs over."

Oxon (v Staffs): Williams, Mustow, Ellison, Laudat, Knightley, Taylor, Hawtin, Savin, Jones, Curtis, Arnold, Jeacock.
