The battle to save a popular music teacher has really taken off.

Oxford Airport bosses came up with the cash to allow Edward Feild School in Bicester Road, Kidlington, to keep part-time teacher Karen Lowe until the end of term

And they delivered their £1,000 gift in style by dropping it in by helicopter. The helicopter landed in school grounds and treated several pupils to a short flight.

Karen had been due to leave before Easter after budget cuts forced the school to axe her job.

But the music teacher, who runs a variety of choirs and orchestral groups, was so popular that parents launched the Save Karen Campaign in an attempt to save her job. Oxford Airport came to the rescue by agreeing to pay the school orchestra £1,000 to play at it's annual barbecue - cash that will be used to temporarily keep Karen's job open.

Ian Jackson, a parent who spearheaded the campaign, said: "The kids loved the helicopter. They all went out and had a look at it."

Another offer of cash has been made and from Unigate Dairies and the search for more sponsors is continuing.
