THE home of sex offender Paul Gunning has been smashed up and burgled in revenge attacks.

Two lock-up garages where he kept property have also been raided. Police are investigating and appealed for witnesses.

But no-one living near the privately rented house in Lodden Avenue, Berinsfield, was willing to talk about the attack.

One woman who refused to be named said: "Feelings were running high against Paul Gunning and it's no surprise that some took it out on the house.

"Windows and doors were smashed and stuff inside vandalised. It was a real mess.

"It was a revenge attack to let others know how we feel about sex offenders and perverts."

Two garages in Wilding Road, Wallingford, where Gunning kept tools and other property, were also burgled.

Police are working with his brothers to find out exactly what was stolen. The state of the house in Berinsfield was discovered yesterday morning when family members went to clear it out.

Gunning, 45, is in custody and awaiting sentence after a jury found him guilty at Oxford Crown Court last week by a majority verdict of four counts of indecent assault. He will be sentenced next month.

He was accused of molesting a girl between April 1994 and March last year when she was aged between ten and 13. The prosecution said he offered her money after molesting her.

Gunning, who used to live in East Street, Thame, denied all the allegations.

A police spokesman said: "There is no excuse for this sort of behaviour and we are trying to find the culprits.
