It was Girl Power all the way for the wedding of Scary Spice Mel B to dancer Jimmy Gulzar - for the couple were married by woman priest the Rev Sue Irwin.

Miss Irwin, a former church deacon in Kidlington, had to be escorted to the ceremony by four police officers so she could get through the hundreds of people outside.

About 150 guests - all dressed in white - packed into the little village church at Little Marlow for the service.

A white vintage Cadillac carrying the 23-year-old groom was mobbed by photographers and fans, as was a Range Rover carrying Posh Spice Victoria Adams and driven by her Manchester United footballer fiance David Beckham. The bride had arrived an hour and a half before the groom, slipping past fans and reporters in a car with dark tinted windows.

Baby Spice Emma Bunton and Sporty Spice Mel C arrived separately by car.

Despite the crowds the 23-year-old Spice Girl bride had gone to great lengths to shield her big day from the public eye.

The garden of her mansion - known as "the manor" to people in the village - was hung with large white sheets and guarded by burly security men in dinner jackets.

Most of the guests arrived in three coaches. Spice Girls spokesman Alan Edwards said: "There were not any celebrity guests, apart from the girls and David.

"It was a nice, low-key affair with family and friends."

Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell was not thought to be among the guests.

In an example of Girl Power, Mel B - real name Melanie Brown - was married by Little Barlow's female vicar, the Rev Sue Irwin, who had earlier been escorted into the church by four police officers.

The bride wore a white dress designed by fashion company D2 (D squared), a blue garter given to her by Baby Spice Emma Bunton, and antique earrings from her mother Andrea.

She was given away by her father Martin.

Wedding guests sang Bob Marley's One Love and two traditional hymns.

There was also music from the London Community Gospel Choir and an all-female string quartet.

On a day of sunshine and showers, the reception was held in a 120ft by 40ft marquee in the mansion's grounds in which a small artificial lake had been built.

Guests celebrated with champagne and a menu which included Mel B's favourite Caribbean dishes of jerk chicken and red snapper.

A firework display is planned for midnight, and the coaches are expected to return to take the guests home at around 1am. Mel B met her new husband when they danced together earlier this year, and he proposed after seven weeks.

She is three months pregnant with their child.
