OXFORD United assistant manager Mark Harrison has shot down renewed speculation linking goal machine Dean Windass with a move to Nottingham Forest.

Reports emanating from the East Midlands suggest that Windass is top of Forest boss Ron Atkinson's spring shopping list.

But Harrison said: "They have not spoken to us. We have had no contact and no offers.

"As far as we are concerned, he is not for sale. If an offer came in too big to refuse, then things change, but we are quite happy to keep him.

"He has been terrific for us this season."

Windass has hit 18 goals in 31 games for United this campaign - scoring six in his last five starts.

United will be desperate to hold on to him as his presence at the club for the rest of the season looks crucial to their hopes of Division 1 survival.

Meanwhile, Harrison had encouraging news of defender Steve Davis, who has been sidelined all season with an Achilles problem. Harrison reported that the former Barnsley centre back could be back in action in three to four weeks' time.

"It has been a messy one," said Harrison. "He had an operation and then he got an infection and then he had a minor operation.

"But he is improving now and seems to be on the right side of it all."
