GROVE'S talented young side were in jubilant mood after securing promotion with a 51-0 victory over local rivals Harwell at Cane Lane.

Needing victory to clinch second place in the table, Grove were given a hard time in the first half by Harwell who were determined not to lie down and die.

The home side led only 13-0 at the break after tries by fly half Dave Bowden and right wing Guy Bates plus a penalty by full back Ben Dean.

Following a half-time lecture from coach John Gunter, Grove raised their efforts in the second half and replacement fly half Dean Hammett scored two tries.

Further tries followed from Dean (2), centre Matt James and No 8 Ian Hall as Grove topped the half century. Dean added four conversions. Simon Chadbone marked his last game for Wheatley by scoring the first try in their 22-0 victory at home to Abingdon.

The 21-year-old prop forward, who has scored 15 tries this season, is to try his luck with a bigger club next term.

Wheatley's other tries came from Nick Banton, Mason Bradshaw and skipper Steve McManus, who is stepping down due to pressure of work. Jason Laman added one conversion.

Gosford All Blacks may possess a great new clubhouse, but they were forced to concede the points to Littlemore after being unable to raise 15 registered players.
