Campaigners fighting plans to change Oxford's education system have urged councillors to join them in their protest.

The Save Our Schools campaign lobbied Oxford City councillors yesterday (mon)and told them they would not give up the fight to stop plans to scrap the city's middle schools.

Annie Skinner, who formed the group, said: "When the city council passed the resolution in favour of reorganisation in January, detailed information of the problems associated with the proposals was unavailable.

"We are concerned to find that monies originally intended to finance the reorganisation are insufficient and that the Local Education Authority has no clear financial statement to make.

"Because the schools will be made bigger, catchment areas will be changed and local residents can expect more traffic.

"The disruption to education will be enormous and will affect a generation of city children."

A final decision on plans to scrap the three-tier system and replace it with primary and secondary schools will be taken in July.
