Mark S offers a day-by-day guide to the week ahead on the Oxfordshire music scene. Tonight (Thursday, April 20) sees a mouthwatering four-band line-up at The Kooler (at The Bullingdon, Cowley Road). Abingdon-based Scrambler who produce an irresistable Jam meets the Housemartins sound headline. Also on the bill are Ultraviolet (see feature), Oxford's Nebula and Witney's Ty-Down. Along the Cowley Road, The Point plays host to 4th Quartet, who team up with Pavo. Being a Thursday, it's Disques Vogue (the easy listening club) at The Zodiac. In town, roots.net, in Park End Street, offers acoustic rising star David Hughes. The Jericho, in Walton Street, welcomes Scribble.

Friday (April 21) brings those purveyors of perfect guitar pop, Beulah (all the way from the USA) back to The Point. Fellow American popsters Butterflies of Love provide the main support. Dawn of the Replicants side-project and Shifty Disco duo Pluto Monkey complete an unmissable triple-bill. Oxford's prog-rock flavoured outfit Suriki 'launch' their debut single Turnpike with a gig at The Elm Tree (not last Friday as we said last week!). Joining them for the celebrations are Okura and the young and promising X-Hail. Elsewhere it's block party classics from Benny Blanco and Kensi the driving force behind the Retro nights at The Bullingdon. Meanwhile, the Source crew descend on The Zodiac for their fortnightly drum 'n' bass workout. Guest performers are D J Lee and Jay Jay. Earlier in the evening, downstairs at The Zodiac, the re-arranged gig for Balfa Toujours takes place. Irish folksters Lunasa who include former members of The Water Boys among their number can be caught live at roots.net. Further afield, The Pit, Witney, is visited by My Delicate Nihilist.

Saturday (April 22) brings Four Way Trauma to the Elm Tree. At The Point, the energetic Vade Mecum headline, with their blend of metal 'n' post-grunge inclined rock. David Gray (see feature) returns to Oxford for a show at The Zodiac, the folk popster has quite an illustrious fan base in this parish! Later at The Zodiac, there's the regular Transformation club night. Also on the Cowley Road, The Bullingdon has a ska 'n' reggae double-bill with authentic sixties ska outfit Intensified (see interview) teaming up with The Skanksters.

Roots.net continue to offer an eclectic range of world music as Zimabwean vocal act Imbizo arrive in town.The Pit at the Hollybush in Witney has a double-barrelled explosion of noise with metal-inspired punk outfit Headcount and Didcot's Faith in Hate. Also in Witney, traditional rock is on offer at the Red Lion, with the mighty High 'n' Mighty.

Headspin, a live trance night, takes place at The Bullingdon on Sunday, April 23, with Monoman and Thermosphere providing the live entertainment. Monoman, from Wantage, will be profiling material from their No Future CD. The blues rock night at the Fuggle 'n' Firkin, Gloucester Green finds Lee Sankey and the Cook Grey Fives on hand. On the Cowley Road, local singer/songwriter Osprey heads a triple-bill, along with a little help from his friends, the OX4 All-stars so expect some special guests to appear. Osprey and friends are joined by the Vegas Tones (see story). Opening the show are the Club Casuals, fronted by the very talented Georgina Turvey.

Tuesday (April 24) brings the weekly jazz night to The Bullingdon. Denny Illett and his Quartet continue in their regular slot. Across town, The Jericho plays host to both Strip and Euclid. PoNaNa in Magdalen Street offers the Beat Circus.
