The champagne corks were popping as Banbury United last night clinched the Hellenic league Premier Division championship.
Needing just a point from their match at Wantage Town, Banbury triumphed 3-1 thanks to goals from Matty Gooderick, Steve Jenkins (penalty) and Jody McKay. Ian Howard netted for Wantage.
By winning the title, Banbury, under manager Kevin Brock, have gained promotion to the Dr Martens League Eastern Division, exactly ten years after being relegated from what was then known as the Beazer Homes League.
