The Morrells Oxford Sunday League's President's Cup final due to take place at Oxford City tomorrow has been postponed over claims that one of the finalists fielded an ineligible player.
The game between Oxford Supporters Club and Mansfield Road has been called off while the league investigates allegations that a Supporters Club player turned out in the semi-final victory over AFC Vikings, having already played for AR Blues in an earlier round. Donley Romain, Supporters Club's secretary, said: "To be honest, I'm waiting for a letter from the league to tell us we have been expelled.
"We could appeal, but let's wait and see. The manager is speaking to the player concerned to find out his side of the story."
Romain said that he understood that the offending player may have believed he was eligible for the semi-final.
"We think that because AR Blues and Masons Arms are in the same division, the player was under the impression that he was playing in a league game rather than a cup tie.
"Whatever happens we don't want people to think we're cheats. The bloke was a substitute and he only came on in extra time right at the end of the semi-final."
