Hellenic league round-up from the weekend

Banbury United 3 Carterton 0

It was celebration time at Banbury United on Saturday as they received the Premier Division championship shield and then went on to beat Carterton 3-0. A crowd of 359 watched as Jody McKay put Banbury ahead after 29 minutes, and two more goals from the prolific Matty Gooderick put the icing on the cake.

Banbury Utd 2 Harrow Hill 0

Another excellent crowd of 300 saw Banbury record their 29th victory of the season yesterday (Monday). The goals came from goals from Smith and Fuller.

Highworth Tn 3 Abingdon Utd 1

Abingdon United were unable to stop Highworth clinching the runners-up spot. Reeves headed Highworth into a 33rd-minute lead, and Abingdon fell further behind seconds before half-time when Moss, who looked offside, raced through to slip the ball past Simon Tricker. Highworth went 3-0 ahead when Hughes side-footed home in the 56th minute. Wayne Harbert blasted home a superb 25-yard drive to give Abingdon a consolation goal in the 86th minute.

Ardley 2 Letcombe 2

Ardley blew the chance to clinch runners-up spot in Division 1 after letting a two-goal lead slip in a game switched from Letcombe as their own ground was waterlogged. Steve Ayris gave Ardley the lead after 20 minutes, and he struck again two minutes later. Steve Burry set up David Richardson to pull one back for Letcombe after the break, and substitute Adam Pendell chipped Dave Taylor for the equaliser.

Worcester College OB 2 Easington Sports 2

Worcester College Old Boys, who were reduced to ten men just after half-time, led twice before being held to a draw by Easington in Division 1. Worcester took the lead when Nick East lobbed the keeper, Easington levelling with a speculative shot that crept through Old Boys keeper Pete Ashton's legs. Two minutes after the break, East scored again with a low shot, but Easington equalised with a header.

Purton 0 Middle Barton 1

Ian Fraser's angled shot after 40 minutes was enough to give Middle Barton victory. John Umney had earlier hit a post for Barton, who produced a superb all-round defensive display.
