One down, one to go . . . Oxford United are just 90 minutes away from second division safety and it could come tonight.

Last Saturday's vital 2-0 victory over Scunthorpe at the Manor meant curtains for both Scunthorpe and Blackpool, and now only Cardiff can stand in the way of United avoiding relegation.

And after the Welsh club's 2-1 defeat at Stoke on Sunday, Cardiff themselves are just one more defeat from the drop and all Oxford fans will be praying that comes at promotion-chasing Gillingham this evening.

BBC Radio Oxford are relaying the game at Priestfield live, and the Oxford Mail will bring you United players' reactions on the outcome. United are desperately hoping they do not need to get anything from their final game in the Lions' New Den this Saturday when they finish the season against a Millwall side who will need to win to reach the play-offs.

But manager Denis Smith believes, should it come down to that, his team are capable of getting something in South London.

"If we need something at Millwall, we are capable of going there and giving them a performance," he said, speaking after the win over Scunthorpe which brought joyous scenes from the home fans.

"We've done it today and that's three games undefeated. All at once, there's a little belief. With Paul Powell further forward and Matt Murphy in a more natural position, we know we can get goals, and that takes a lot of pressure off the people at the back." Smith hopes his presence is not required at the New Den.

"Next Saturday my sister-in-law gets married and I'm supposed to be making a speech at the wedding," he explained. "But I won't be there if we need a result at Millwall. Hopefully, I'll be there because it will mean we are nice and safe."
