Banbury lost the leadership of the Home Counties League when the weather denied them a probable victory away to Reading on Saturday.

It enabled High Wycombe to take over at the top of the table as they defeated Bicester & North Oxford to open up a seven-point lead.

Electing to bat first, Reading were tied down by Banbury's accurate attack, eight batsmen reaching double figures, but only two of them passing 20.

The league's leading wicket-taker, Neal Radford, picked up another four to add to his ever-increasing tally, his 4-40 coming off 14 overs.

Craig Haupt's off-spin was rewarded with 4-31 from 9.3 overs as he worked his way through the middle order.

Reading's total of 162, made from 62.3 overs, never looked enough, especially when Banbury openers Andrew Sabin and Haupt put on 103 in the first 35 overs.

Haupt took his tally for the season past 500 before he was bowled by David Hartley for 55.

One run later, Sabin was caught and bowled by the same bowler, at which point the heavens opened and ended proceedings.

Banbury still have six matches left.
