Oxfordshire Formula 1 star Jenson Button finished a career-best fourth at the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.

Despite starting from the back of the grid after his car failed to start for the formation lap, the Bicester-based ace fought his way through the field with a storming performance.

The 20-year-old is widely expected to be taken on loan by the Benetton team when he is replaced at Williams by Champ Car's Juan Pablo Montoya.

The two-year deal could be announced in the next ten days but BAR are also keen on his services, undoubtedly more so after yesterday's latest demonstration of his cool track craft.

Benetton boss Flavio Briatore insists no decision has been made yet, but Button looks certain to partner Giancarlo Fisichella with the Enstone-based outfit next season.

I am very happy considering how my race started, said Button, now eighth in the championship with eight points.

But the team made an excellent job in calling me in at the right time to switch to wet tyres. It was very difficult because the back of the circuit was dry yet in the pit-lane it was raining.
