Simon Pritchard won a personal duel with Colin Deasy (Sphinx AC) to land the overall senior men's title in the Bicester AC Fox Four Series which closed with the Marsh Gibbon 10k.
Wth only one point separating the two main protagonists, both men were in a race apart with only 200 metres of the 10k covered. But it was the ever-consistent Banbury Harrier, who was to prove the stronger and won comfortably from Deasy with a swift 32mins 30secs.
It was a superb comeback from Pritchard who was beaten by Deasy in the opening ten-miler and, in the process, ended his run of seconds in each of the three previous races in the series.
Deasy's effort of 33.13 was probably his worst performance of the series but he nonetheless acquitted himself well in finishing runner-up in the senior men's series.
Dave Ashton, the Woodstock Harrier, was again prominent in the 10km, finishing in fourth place in 33.51 which was good enough for third place overall.
Banbury Harriers had further reason to celebrate as Peter George took fourth place in the series standings ahead of Stuart Bartlett.
