Steve Davis will sign a one-year deal to rejoin Oxford United - as soon as he gets the necessary clearance from Macclesfield Town.
Davis, who played for United in their 1-1 draw with Hereford United last night, signed a deal with Macclesfield to play in their pre-season games.
And for him now to join Oxford, the centre back must wait for the Cheshire club to sort out the formalities at their end.
But Davis says there is no problem at all and he is eager to come back to the Manor.
"I've been offered a 12-month contract and I've accepted that," said Davis. "We're just waiting for Macclesfield to clear it up their end but that won't take long. I turned down the original deal Oxford offered me but never said I didn't want to join. When I went on holiday, I came back and found that they had withdrawn the contract.
"I went to Macclesfield for three weeks and played in some friendly matches but it didn't work out. I then played one match for Northwich and they offered me a deal with a coaching job involved. But then Denis gave me a call on Tuesday out of the blue and asked me to join up with the lads and I'm delighted to be back."
