Oxford Central Library has reopened its doors a month after closing for urgent safety work.

The building was suffering from a leaking flat roof and outdated wiring.

Contractors moved in at the start of July to carry out repairs, which will cost 1m. The 25-year-old boiler was also replaced, as well as the building's skylights.

Manager Janet Turner said work would continue on the roof until October, but the library was now fully open to the public.

She said: "We had a downpour last week and nothing came through so we put away our buckets.

The library will now open from 9.15am to 7pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and 9.15am to 5pm on Friday and Saturday.
