Controversial plans for a homeless hostel are to be discussed at a meeting later this month.
The proposal, to be heard by the Vale of White Horse District Council's planning committee on August 14, is strongly opposed by nearby residents who fear it could bring 'undesirables', including sex offenders, to their neighbourhood.
Linda Hyde has applied for permission to turn a former bed and breakfast in Chaunterell Way, Abingdon, into the hostel which would house homeless people referred from the council.
The council is considering granting permission, and has said there is a desperate need for such housing in Abingdon. More than 80 per cent of the Vale's homeless are from Abingdon. Most are currently sent to a hostel in Cowley.
