Kidlington and Charlbury sealed promotion by the narrowest of margins from Division 4 of the Kennington Specialists Oxford & District League in an amazing climax to the season.

Kidlington took top spot with an emphatic 51 victory at home to Chadlington, and Charlbury claimed the runners-up place on shot difference from Morris Motors, who nearly did enough against Florence Park to pip them.

One more shot on Tony Ward's rink would have been enough for promotion to Division 3.

But the biggest disappointment of the season must be at Witney Town, who could only manage 1T points against Begbroke and slipped to fourth, after leading the division for almost the entire season.

Their neighbours Witney Mills were also pipped for promotion, losing out to Woodstock after occupying second place in Division 3 for most of the season.

Woodstock now join Banbury Central in Division 2 next season, with the Banbury outfit again achieving an amazing 55 points for the second season running.

OUP also put up a brave fight to try and stay in Division 3 with their 5-1 defeat of Chipping Norton, but it wasn't quite enough as Cotswold managed to stay above them with a superior shots difference.

West Witney achieved a record number of points and shot difference in taking the Division 2 championship with an incredible 56T points and +381 shots. Rover also won promotion to the top division in emphatic style, finishing 16 points ahead of the third-placed team.

Carterton were another side to break the 50-point mark, with a convincing win against South Oxford, to complete a fine league season as worthy champions.

Summertown claimed their usual position in the top two, securing runners-up in a head-to-head encounter at rivals Banbury Central.
