MP Michael Heseltine is being urged to get involved in a row over another mobile phone mast siting.

The South Oxfordshire MP has been contacted by Geoff Cherry of Thame Road, Little Milton.

"All I want him to do is to sort out a bit of sense into a very silly situation," said Mr Cherry.

He is worried that BT Cellnet plans to attach antennas to an electricity pylon close to Little Milton village hall.

The grandfather of four said: "It is crazy.

"The planners have given Little Milton pre-school permission to put up new premises near the hall and that is too close to this pylon. "If BT put their antennas on other pylons just a short distance in any direction from this one, it would be out in open fields. It would harm no-one.

"But while there is controversy about possible dangers to children from radiation from these places, caution should be exercised."

The Oxford Mail launched a campaign to map the menace of mobile phone masts due to potential health fears.

Dozens of sites have been pinpointed by readers.

Mr Cherry has now written to South Oxfordshire District Council, which will make the planning decision, and to BT Cellnet.

He said: "I have done what I can. I hope others will follow suit and I hope Mr Heseltine can do something to sort this out."

The plan submitted to the district council is for BT Cellnet to have three polar antennas and two dish antennas fixed to the existing legs of a Southern Electricity pylon tower on land at Views Farm.

No-one at BT would comment on the application.
