Children at Freeland Primary School left their uniforms at home on Friday and came dressed as characters from their favourite books.
The school's headteacher Bobby Kay said: "We have Harry Potters, witches and several from Enid Blyton's Faraway Series. You name it, we've got it."
Staff also dressed up for the book day which included a visit from a Witney librarian and Oxford United players, who read pupils their favourite stories.
At the end of the day the Freeland School Society organised a second-hand book sale. Money raised from the sale will be used to buy new books for the school.
