West Witney continued their recent spate of losses in South Clubs' League Division 1 with a 3-2 defeat at home to Horsham.

However, they could take a great deal of pride from a committed and much-improved performance.

Luck was not on Witney's side when Horsham scored from their only short corner of the first half with Zazi Barrell, returning from a year out of the game after knee ligament surgery, deemed to have fouled on the edge of Witney's defending circle.

An equaliser looked on when Sally Hartwell crossed the ball, but Nic Heffernan and Adele Butler just failed to make contact.

In the second half, Becky Stack and Ann Marie Davenport were denied by Horsham's goalkeeper.

And Horsham rode their luck to score again. This time, Barrell obstructed and her opposite number had a free run into the circle to score.

For a 15-minute period, Horsham could not get the ball out of their half and Witney pulled level at 2-2 with goals from Barrell and Wendy Birkett.

Witney continued to push forward, knowing they had Horsham on the back foot.

But they lost possession on Horsham's 25-yard line, and the visitors' centre forward took on Stack from the halfway line and ran on to score with just minutes left.

Rover Oxford Ladies' game at home to Hampstead & Westminster was postponed because the pitch was covered in ice. Despite that, they are still top by six points.

Other score Trysports 3 Counties League Division 5: Wychwood 3 (S Haley, C Hillier, A Dobson), Harlow 2nd 0.
