A new chief executive has been appointed for Oxford City Council.
Marion Headicar, who has worked in local government in London and Leeds, is to replace Bob Block.
Labour councillors last year opposed the early retirement of Mr Block, 49, from his 75,000-a-year post but the decision was approved, meaning a 157,000 top-up payment to his pension fund.
Mrs Headicar, 53, is expected to take up her post when Mr Block leaves on April 2.
Mrs Headicar is currently director of finance and management services at the Government's Planning Inspectorate in Bristol.
Mr Block's replacement was on a shortlist of 11 candidates, and was chosen by a cross-party panel of councillors.
