Les Gillett bowed out in the semi-finals of the Welsh Masters in Llanelli last night when the Oxfordshire ace was halted by world No 1 David Gourlay of Scotland.
Gillett, the newly-crowned world indoor pairs champion from Chipping Norton, found himself 4-1 down in the opening set, but battled back with a single and double to draw level.
A double by Gourlay took him within one shot of winning the set and although Gillett pulled two shots back at the next end, it was the Scot who notched the set winner with a single, edging through 7-6.
Gourlay stayed in the groove in the second set charging 5-2 ahead before Gillett stormed back with four shots in three ends to inch ahead 6-5 only to see the Ayrshire ace swoop with a double, grabbing the set 7-6 to end Gillett's glory run.
Gourlay later beat John Price of Wales 6-7, 7-4, 6-7, 7-6, 7-5 in a marathon four-hour final.
