The show goes on at an Abingdon primary school - despite the theft of a £1,000 professional drum kit which has left pupils angry and upset.

But although the loss of the 16-piece set has disrupted plans for a concert at St Nicolas Church of England school later this month, headteacher Roger Fell says they are determined to go ahead.

"Everyone is so disappointed," said Mr Fell. "The theft has left a bitter taste in our mouths.

"We will be able to replace the drums through insurance, but we have a £100 excess on the policy and that money will have to come out of the school budget."

The distinctive, silver 'Pearl Export' set was stolen when the music room at the school in Boxhill Walk was broken into last week.

Abingdon police have asked people living nearby who may have seen or heard anything unusual, or anyone who may be offered drums for sale, to contact them on 01235 776000, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Mr Fell said: "The children are so upset because rehearsals have been taking place for the concert. It will make life difficult without the drums, but we are determined that the performance will go ahead."
