By David Duffy Swimming pool firm Certikin International has launched the world's first "instant" swimming pool.

The Witney-based firm, which is the country's largest manufacturer, distributor and exporter of swimming pools, displayed the Dutch-built glass-fibre Monoblock pool at its annual seminar held at the Oxford Business Centre in Banbury Road, Oxford.

Sales director Richard Way said: "It is no exaggeration to say that the whole process of installation can be completed in one week.

"On Monday, you excavate a hole; on Tuesday, you lay the concrete base; on Wednesday, the pool can be inserted; on Thursday, you backfill the ground surrounding the pool.

"On Friday, you simply fill the pool with water, jump in and enjoy!"

Certikin managing director Patrick Thorpe said: "The European market for glass-fibre pools has grown from two per cent to 35 per cent over the past three years.

"I think the UK market will mirror and possibly even surpass this trend."

The company's Monoblock pool is supplied complete with a child-safety cover that has locking mechanism, underwater lighting, and factory-installed plumbing.
